Culture Drop.

This is for my Jews, the people who get mistaken for being Jewish, and the folks who just have good fucking taste in music and would appreciate this (not mutually exclusive categories). I found Soulico browsing through Itunes for new music and I got to listen Apple’s stingy 30 second clip, which I must say, was mind-blowing. I’d argue that Regina Spektor is probably the most visible contemporary Jewish artist in the West right now, and she’s been holding it down pretty well, with the exception of Matisyahu, who rocked shit about four years ago. (Spektor has a new album out, and Matisyahu has a new one coming out later this month.)

Spektor is pretty underrated, with the exception of her single “Fidelity” (and possibly her new joint "Laughing With") nobody seems to listen to her much these days. She does have amazing shit though, and she made great music before “Fidelity” even came out, which no listened to even after her shit popped off. Matisyahu, I’ve always felt was overrated from his debut- never really dug his music much. Maybe a second chance is in order.

Anyway, the real reason I’m wasting your time is because Soulico (a crew of Jewish DJs from Tel Aviv) is poised to infuse American Hip Hop with some Jewish flavor. Culturally, this is good news, but the fact that the music is really fucking good is the tasty part. Here’s their new single, "Put 'Em Up".

This is the new Hava Naglia. Throw some kid in a chair and toss that shit…and don’t ever put ‘em down.
