The Masterpiece of the Mix (or, alternatively titled) Summertime Groove

The mix is the enthusiast’s concept album. Every track has to fit to a unifying pattern that speaks to a cohesive theme. Each song must contribute something different, but together the whole has to signify the broad picture.

This mix is about summertime. In the way that they make summertime movies or blockbusters, one can make a summertime mix. The difference is that a summer movie is a piece of summer. A summer mix is the summer’s soundtrack- it speaks to every piece of summer itself. Summer is cliché as it is new. Summer is as much about revisiting the familiar as it is exploring the new. Summer is about being carefree as much as it is about nervously anticipating the things to come. It’s about love as much as it’s about heartbreak. It’s about responsibility as much as it’s about fun. Summer is about indulgence as much as it about restraint. It’s about dreams as much as it’s about making the shit you have work. Summer is as much about being hot during the day as it is being cool at night.

With that in mind, this selection of tracks has been designed to reflect summer time- reflect summertime’s hot humility as well as its cool arrogance. It’s dreamy laziness as well as it’s swaggering ambition. It’s about the summertime cocktail that represents the constantly wavering contradiction of being young and the ups and downs associated with that experience.

So pop this shit in, turn the volume up, and ride on.

And remember, every summer has its sequel (or two).
